Walking coaching experience
As one week draws to an end and a new week is just on the horizon, I’ve been thinking about something I’ve been experimenting with in the background.
A few of you know I’ve been testing a “walking coaching” format; a short structured WhatsApp-based coaching session done whilst out on a walk. It's about movement, space to think, and a different way of being in the moment.
Fleur (my dog) has become an unofficial co-facilitator. I think she now assumes any slightly longer walk means someone somewhere, is about to have a breakthrough. 😀
What’s struck me isn’t the novelty of the format but how quickly people settle into it. The feedback has shown just how powerful movement, coupled with a structured coaching approach, to reflect on a question, problem or blockage, can be.
✴️ “I was genuinely surprised at how much came out of a simple walk.”
✴️ “The physical movement created a different kind of mindset”
✴️ “It helped me isolate and think clearer about the problem"
✴️ “It should definitely be part of a corporate coaching engagement.”
Someone even suggested calling it: “A Walking Coaching Experience.” which actually feels like the right name.
There’s something about movement that stimulates thinking, creativity, and a calm objectivity in a way that a meeting room can’t always match.
The photos I took are a mix from the various session including some of Fleur, who has probably attended more coaching sessions last month than most executives have in their career, and will no doubt demand extra food and treats for the added physical activity!
I'm continuing to test it and who knows it may even become embedded into my corporate offering!
Sometimes the simplest ideas turn out to be the most useful.
